von Gerkan, Marg and Partners Architects

On old Foundations:
Building in a Historical Context

19 September - 25 November 2014

Opening reception: 18 September, at 18.00
Location: Palazzo Michiel, Venice Italy

Building on old foundations:
Is there a better place than Venice to stage an exhibition on this subject? A city which, in spite of its most unfavorable conditions – hundreds of islands, located in a flood area, extensive foundation work required – developed from an outpost of the Byzantine Empire into a major power in its own right?

That is the reason why the German architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (gmp) will stage their exhibition “On Old Foundations” during the 14th Venice Architecture Biennale. Historic and contemporary photos, films, drawings, models and other elements illustrate how gmp architects deal with existing buildings like the Olympic Stadium in Berlin or the Chinese National Museum in Beijing.

Curators: Volkwin Marg and Gert Kähler
